The Journey Begins….
There is a famous Chinese saying.
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
For me, it was three books.
I have been working on a series for years. I have devoted that time to learning the craft, making mistakes, writing and rewriting, then writing some more. It has been a long, invigorating, sometimes frustrating process.
Now, I have emerged from my training.
I have finished three books.
Why three?
There is no mystical reason behind the number. It is advice I got from other writers. To market a series, you need to demonstrate you have staying power. What’s the point of introducing the reader to a world if you peter out after the first book? Or if you make them wait years for the next installment? Better to get your world in place, to make sure you have plenty of material to keep the series going.
I think I have reached this point.
It’s now time to move on, to leave my cozy little writing hut and embark on a new adventure: getting my book published.
I’ll be honest.
The business side of things scares me.
I feel like a hobbit about to head out of the Shire and into the dark world of Mordor.
And if the Lord of the Rings has taught me anything, I will need companions on my quest.
Why don’t you join me?
I’ll chronicle each step of my journey here. Maybe you’re a writer contemplating a similar path, or someone who is interested in the business side of writing, or someone who is just curious. Whatever your background, I will keep these posts as entertaining and accessible as I can. I might even tell a few tales along the way…
I promise to keep you entertained. And to warn you about any monsters I encounter along the way.
